 Ogasawara Nagakiyo Nagakiyo Ogasawara, founder of the Ogasawara-ryu, came from Yamanashi prefecture.
At the age of 26 he become horse archery and ceremonial archery personal teacher of Minamoto no Yoritomo (founder of the Shogunate and first Shogun).
The Ogasawara-ryu is the most ancient school of Japanese Archery that survived until today. The Nagakiyo Ogasawara original technique were however lost because his school split into several branches. |

 Kyūdō, literally meaning "way of the bow", is the Japanese art of archery. Kyūdō is a rare sport in the sense that it is not dependent on age or sex. If the practitioner is dedicated, male or female, they can learn at any age. It's never too early or too late to learn Kyūdō. Although one could learn Kyūdō at any point in their life, it can take a lifetime to perfect. |
